Requiem for a dream
January 2002

The end of a magnificient era. Yves Saint-Laurent, the most famous fashion designer, a pure genius, closes its "haute couture" department. The "prêt-à-porter" departement was bought by the PPR group few years ago.
On January 22nd, the last "défilé" took place at the Centre Pompidou - the Museum of Modern Art - in Paris. Jerry Hall, Naomi Campbell, Laetitia Casta, Claudia Schiffer... and all the collections since 1962, for one night, on one stage.
The audience was not less famous : Mrs Mitterrand, Mrs Chirac, Jeanne Moreau, Inès de la Fressange, Jean-Paul Gaulthier, Kenzo, Sonia Rykiel, Hubert de Givenchy, the Galeries Lafayette's executive staff, they were all there. From Callas to the Rolling Stones, the music was ecclectic.
And Deneuve? On the cover of Paris Match last week, with YSL, she was not in the audience and not among the models... so?
Remember Belle de Jour : the first loving act between the blond star and "the inspired reed".
At the end of the show, the sound of her voice, broken, full of tears, singing the most famous song from the great diva, Barbara : "Ma plus belle histoire d'amour c'est vous" (My most beautiful love story is you). An anthem for the fans.
Deneuve appeared with her long time friend Saint-Laurent, in the classing tuxedo for woman. The curtain is almost fall... with a regret for a lost period; when the actresses and the actors were well clothed. Closed.
